We will see stars in Hungary once again
The next stop of the Hungarian Grand Prix Series, the „little brother” of the Gyulai István Memorial will take place on August 24th Tuesday as part of the Continental Tour Bronze.
Diamond League events in Budapest
We got to experience in June in Tatabánya what kind of significance these events can have as British hammer thrower Taylor Campbell (78.23) qualified for the Olympics at that very competition, while Mykhaylo Kokhan (77.00), who just missed a medal at the Olympics, finished second. We also saw a Hungarian U23 record in the 400 metres women’s hurdles thanks to Janka Molnár and 14 Hungarian athletes achieved personal bests.
We will see two Diamond League events at the Grand Prix, which starts at two o’ clock on August 24, because many of these could not be finished due to the pandemic. The men’s discus throw and the women’s shot put will award the standard amount of Diamond League points.
Since the Olympics are over and the European Championship has been cancelled, athletes will be aiming to get ranking points for the 2022 World Championship and European Championship which should provide ample motivation.
Those who returned from Tokyo will also want to battle for the quotas and rankings points against international competition.
Hungarian athletes will get the chance once again to achieve great results against established internationals who they rarely get to go up against, especially on home soil.
