The best Hungarian athletes will go up against international stars in Budapest on August 24
As we have written before, the women’s shot put and the men’s discus will be part of the Diamond League point system due to the fact that some events could not be held because of the pandemic. Violetta Veiland and Anita Márton will participate in the former while János Huszák and Róbert Szikszai will represent our country in the latter at the next meet of the Hungarian Grand Prix series which will take place in Budapest at the Lantos Mihály Sport Centre on August 24.
One of the goals of the series is to ensure that Hungarian athletes can go up against internationally established athletes.
The 100 metres will feature Zoltán Kádasi (10.52) from BHSE who will compete against Michael Rodgers and Marvin Bracy, but three other sub 10.90 runners from Hungary will also participate: Patrik Bondschu, Botond Gál (Vasas) and Zoltán Orosz (BHSE).
Patrik Bondschu (21.75) will also participate in the 200 metres along with Tamás Máté (BHSE, 20.86) and Zoltán Wahl (Budafoki MTE, 21.49).
The 800 metres will feature six prominent Hungarian athletes – Tamás Kazi (FTC, 1:45.37), Balázs Vindics (UTE, 1:46.18), Dániel Huller (VSD, 1:47.76), Máté Együd (TFSE 1:48.40), Gábor Fekete (Budafoki MTE, 1:51.88) and Máté Oláh (DSC-SI, 1:52.33).
Tokyo Olympian István Szögi (SVSE, 3:36.63) will compete in the 1500 metres along with Gergő Kiss (SVSE, 3:40.48), Bálint Pápai (GEAC 3:41.07), Márk Vörös (UTE, 3:42.52) and Bálint Szinte (UTE, 3:48.14).
The 110 metres hurdles will feature Bálint Szeles (Egri Sportiskola SE, 13.75) while the Koroknai brothers will have a chance to make their mark in the 400 metres. Tibor has a personal best of 49.24 while Máté’s best is 49.70. The latter beat David Kendziera in Tatabánya at the last meet of the Hungarian Grand Prix Series.
The 3000 metres steeplechase will only have one Hungarian athletes, István Palkovits (KARC, 8:29.86) who took home gold at the U23 European Championships in Tallin.
Péter Bakosi (NYSC, 2.26), Dániel Jankovics (MTK Budapest, 2.24), Péter Agárdi (BHSE, 2.19) and Olivér Bándi (BHSE, 2.12) will compete in the high jump.
In the hammer throw we will see Olympian Bence Halász (79.88) and Dániel Rába (76.83) who finished third at the Tatabánya Grand Prix behind Taylor Campbell and Mykhaylo Kokhan.
Máté Járvás (UTE, 74.39), György Herczeg (FTC, 73.74), Martin Jancsik (MTK Budapest, 64.24) and Tamás Jancsik (MTK Budapest, 68.81) will compete in the javelin throw.
Two Hungarian teams will take part in the 4X100 metres relay. The first – more experienced – group will feature Zalán Kádasi, Tamás Máté, János Sipos and Szeles Bálint while the U18 team will consist of Rómeó Faragó, Marcell Blaumann, Márton Lindi and Péter Szilágyi.
More than half of the women’s 100 metres will be made up of Hungarian Athletes. Jusztina Csóti (FTC, 11.65), Lili Furulyás (Zalaszám ZAC 11.83), Blanka Huszka (KARC, 12.49), Anna Kocsis (Szolnoki SC-SI, 12.20), Bettina Kéri (SVSE, 11.80), Klaudia Sorok (BHSE, 11.54) and Boglárka Takács (ARAK Youth Academy, 11.56) will all compete.
Bianka Bartha-Kéri (SVSE, 2:01.34) – who was at the Olympics – will feature in the 800 metres along with Anna Ferencz (TFSE, 2:02.72), Hédi Heffner (2:06.19), Kinga Ohn (BEAC, 2:07.85) and Rebeka Tóth (UTE, 2:30.68).
We will see two athletes from Debrecen in the 100 metres hurdles – Hungarian record holder Luca Kozák (12.71) and Gréta Kerekes (12.93).
The 400 metres hurdles will feature U23 national record holder Janka Molnár (Budafoki MTE, 56.03) and Regina Mohai (Arak Youth Academy, 59.11).
We will see Lili Anna Tóth (9:30.96) in the 300 metres steeplechase. Anna was at the Tokyo Olympics where she broke her personal record.
Barbara Szabó (UTE, 1.97), Luca Renner (MTK Budapest, 1.85) and Fédra Fekete (1.84) will compete in the high jump.
Olympian dr. Anasztázia Nguyen (MTK Budapest, 6.77) will battle against U23 European Champion Petra Farkas (BHSE, 6.73) in the high jump, but Diana Lesti (TSC-Geotech, 6.58) and Klaudia Endrész (MTK Budapest, 6.36) will also feature.
We will see three hammer throwers from Dobó SE: Réka Gyurátz (72.70), Zsanett Németh (63.90), Bianka Rajczi (57.96) and Villő Viszkeleti (61.04).
Réka Szilágyi (DSC-SI 62.45) is the biggest name of our javelin throwers, but Angéla Moravcsik (MTK Budapest, 59.64) and U18 national record holder Fanni Kövér (VEDAC, 57.39) can also cause surprises.
Four Hungarian teams will compete in the 4X100 relays: Hungary A (Bettina Kéri, Jusztina Csóti, Boglárka Takács, Luca Kozák), Hungary B (Zsófi Tóth-Ecseki, Klaudia Sorok, Lili Furulyás, Evelin Nádházy), Hungary LJ (dr. Anasztázia Nguyen, Diana Lesti, Klaudia Endrész, Petra Farkas), Hungary U18 (Gréta Szabó, Luca Mészáros, Blanka Huszka, Anna Kocsis).
